Prayer

"Devote yourselves in prayer;

stay alert in it with thanksgiving."

Colossians 4:2

Teach Me to Pray

It says in Luke 11:1 that Jesus was praying in a certain place. Scriptures describes this aspect of His prayer life on several occasions as He knew the necessity and the treasure of prayer. He constantly pulled away to be with His Father because He only did what He saw His Father doing (John 5:19). Jesus knew the secret to His secret place: It was more than seeking wisdom, it was seeking communion with Abba. This intimacy and submission bore much fruit because Jesus's prayer life was perfect. Consider that - every prayer He prayed was pure, pleased the Father and was answered (or will be answered through the end of days). There were no idle words, no hidden motives. He sought the perfect will of the Father - nothing more, but certainly nothing less.

What's different about Jesus's prayer time in Luke 11 is that when He finished one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray". Though the disciples walked closely with Jesus and learned much from their Rabbi in a short time, this is the only time scripture shows them asking the Lord to
teach them something. Of all things - evangelism, healing, miracles, the Kingdom, prophecy... they desired this one thing: Teach us to pray.

This Kingdom principle stands today. Prayer is the beginning, middle and end of every Kingdom work. But Like Jesus, our pursuit of prayer should not be simply for the sake of instruction but because we delight in intimacy with God. Intercession is not about the right words or even perfectly quoting scripture. The thief on the cross cried out to Jesus and the immediate fruit of that prayer was the presence of Jesus forevermore. We must be a people of prayer. It is vital for our knowledge of God, our partnership with Him and our protection. As you desire to pursue the Lord in intercession and grow in prayer, reach beyond your needs and seek the heart of God for what He desires. Pray His will be accomplished!

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels." For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek Your prosperity." Psalm 122:6-9

"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore." Psalm 133:1-3

“If you love Me, keep My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth." John 14:15

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Intercession isn't just an action. It's a lifestyle. How can we intercede for you?
